Green & White Hockey
Home of the WRHS Mountaineers

The Future Mountaineer Hockey Clinic is back for its third year to offer young hockey players the opportunity to both improve their skills and enjoy themselves in the process. Headed by Wachusett Regional High School’s Varsity hockey coach Matt Lane, our clinic focuses on developing all the skills necessary for a well-rounded, complete hockey player.
These skills
include:
-Skating -Shooting -Passing
-Stick-handling -Checking -Conditioning
The clinic will also help the players to improve their “hockey awareness and intelligence” by working on special situations like breakouts, power plays, and penalty kills as well as stressing the importance of communication and teamwork.
The clinic has been broken up into two sessions in order to provide each player with more individual attention on the ice and give skaters the opportunity to compete and learn alongside players close to their own age.
In addition to learning through drills and game situations, all skaters will be split into teams for the entire week. Each day, the last hour of the camp will be devoted to games/scrimmages between the different teams. Standings will be kept throughout the clinic, culminating with playoffs and a championship at the end of the week. Players will also be participating in both team and individual skills competitions each day, including breakaways, shot accuracy, and relay races.
At the Future Mountaineer Hockey Clinic, players will work closely with Coach Lane, his staff, and former and current Wachusett hockey players to help them reach their fullest potentials.
Note to goalies: The clinic is also open to goaltenders. Goalies will participate in all drills and there will also be a goalie coach on staff to work with them throughout the week. Cost of tuition for goaltenders is $100.

The
second year of the Future Mountaineer Hockey Clinic was held July
12 - July 15, 2010 at the NESC in Marlboro as 40 skaters
and 8 goaltenders took to the ice during two separate sessions. Over the course of the week,
participants honed their individual skills such as shooting, passing,
stickhandling, and conditioning while learning more about concepts like power
play, penalty kill, breaking out, forechecking, and faceoff responsibilities. Players
in both sessions also competed against each other on their teams in both team
skill competitions and scrimmages. The
staff would like to congratulate all the skaters and
goalies on all their hard work throughout the week. Each session spent a
total of 12 hours on the ice and they used every minute to make themselves
better hockey players. The staff truly appreciates the players' work
ethic and hopes that each participant left the clinic having learned something
and having enjoyed themselves in the process.
"Both of our kids seemed to really enjoy this camp and had a lot of fun. When my wife would pick them up each day, they were very excited to tell her what happened that day. I attended the last hours of the last day and my impression is that it was a very well run camp, especially how the current and former players were involved rather than just gathering together and socializing/watching what was happening. Overall, I think it was an outstanding experience for my kids and you all should be commended for providing a quality experience."
~ Peter Boltruczyk
"My son came home from camp every day talking about how much fun he had. He also knew what he had learned and things he should work on. He also said the coaches were all really nice too. Each day seemed to be organized and well run by the coaches. This hockey clinic proved that learning is fun."
~ Michael Conway
"My son Joe had such a great time this week! He has participated in other hockey camps over the years and he said this was the best one by far. He really enjoyed all the time on the ice practicing and learning drills. Also, the staff was friendly and worked well with the kids. All in all, it was money well spent and we would certainly return next summer!"
~ Christine Girard
"Our son enjoyed himself; he was very sore from the workouts, which meant he worked hard. He also enjoyed the daily challenges and the staff. A perfect opportunity for him to meet players from the surrounding towns."
~ Bob & Trefa White
"I liked the attitude I saw from the staff, and I liked that it was organized and things were planned. Staff to skater ratio was great, and I noticed that praise and kudos were plenty. As a parent of a current WRHS player and hopefully a future player, I like the interaction between the older and younger kids. These older guys are who the younger guys are watching, and to be able to spend time with them on the ice was great. More importantly, my son Ozzy was happy to get up early to go to the rink. By day three, he was already saying he hopes he can do this again next year, and that says everything to me. Fantastic job!"
~ Melissa Smith
"As parents we thought you did a great job. You kept the kids moving and worked them hard, but kept it fun at the same time which is not an easy thing to do. Our son Joe is already planning on attending next year."
~ Beth & Joe Rinaldo
"I thought that all the coaches were very polite and respectful. I felt good about leaving him every day in safe hands. I also enjoyed the last day with the games and awards. Great job! We will see you again next year."
